After a twenty-year career of full-time work in the hotel and tourism industry in the U.S. and overseas, Sonia started her private consulting practice. She works with International Agencies that assist countries in using tourism as a means of economic development.
In recent years, she has devoted more time to cultivate her interest in art by taking art courses and workshops. She has studied with Andrea Burchette, Deborah Souders, Robin Young, Jeanne Dobie, Carolyn Buchanon, and Joe Mayer. She has taken watercolor workshops in France, Greece, and Mexico. Now, Sonia combines her international tourism consulting work with her watercolor painting.
Sonia's paintings have been exhibited in a number of regional art shows and galleries. She exhibits her original paintings and selected prints at her studio, which is open to the public six times a year as an open house. Sonia's watercolors have been juried by a number of national and regional art jurors, and have received a number of awards for best watercolor in group exhibits.
Mrs. Maher's watercolors have the spontaneity of impressionism. The subjects of her paintings include nature, landscapes, and some of the many foreign lands that she enjoys visiting.
Sonia and her husband Jim have made their home in Estero, Florida. Her studio is located along the Gulf of Mexico in Estero, Florida.
